"The Elf's Bridegroom"

Select stills from "The Elf's Bridegroom"

"The Elf's Bridegroom" was produced for an Intro to Cinematography class and my goal of the project was to fake long takes to help show the passage of time. For this project I wanted to continue to experiment with old age makeup to show how a relationship might play out between a human and a long-lived fantasy race such as elves.

Costumes

The costumes were objects pulled from the actors' own wardrobes that were styled by me. I wanted the elf's costume to contrast the human in order to show her other-worldly nature, so her costume was more formal and Grecian inspired compared to the human's every-day clothes. It was also important to me that their costumes felt "out of time" in order to not place them in any particular era.

Makeup

To show the passage of time in the short, I did a progressive aging effect on the actor while keeping the actress' styling consistent. Since we would be shooting on location, it was easier to apply the heaviest aged makeup first, then remove layers at the location of filming. I wanted to encompass the actor's current look, to middle-aged, to elderly.
